Today I openened a new Adizone:
What an incredible few days!
Who would have thought it? A few weeks ago I wasn't even in the Great Britain Athletics squad for the World Championships and now I have just finished fourth in the final, clocking a personal best time of 13.30seconds!
In any other race so far in my career I would have considered myself unlucky to have finished in fourth place, just missing out on the medals. However, this is the World Championships and my first real chance on the big stage so just to be in contention with the quality of opposition on show was a massive thing for me.
If any of you saw my BBC appearance in the studio on Friday, you will have heard Colin Jackson's analysis of my performance in the final. What a privilege to get tips from such an established and successful hurdler! Everything that he said rings true with me, and I intend to spend my winter concentrating on my technical endurance because in the final I know that I didn't run the best technical race.
The actual race and the lead up to it was a bit of a blur. The euphoria in the crowd was tangible after the heroics of Jamaican superstar Usain Bolt, and as soon as I walked into the stadium I felt in fantastic shape. This was the best opportunity in my athletics career to date and I intended to give it my best shot, particularly after I heard the cheer for the German athlete. I wanted people cheering like that for me!
I stumbled near the start and I clipped some of the hurdles but not enough to knock them down. Towards the end of the race I couldn't even see the hurdles, I was just running blind. A reporter told me afterwards that my time had put me fifth on the all time British list, which is just such an amazing accomplishment. To be honest I had no idea until he pointed it out, but it's just another bonus on such an incredible night.
Who knows what's next? But the next port of call is to get home, give my little son a little cuddle and give his mum a big kiss. 2012 is fast approaching and I am only 24 now, so hopefully when the Olympics come round I will be in my prime and ready to go for gold.
